Hallmark and Dealers Notice

Guide explaining UK hallmarking for precious metals like gold, silver, platinum, and palladium.

In the UK jewellery items made from precious metals, which weigh over certain weights must legally be hallmarked.  This provides a guarantee for purchases that precious metals meet the quality stated.

A hallmark consists of the individual makers mark for the jeweller, together with the mark of the assay office which they are registered, and the type of metal being sold.

I am registered with the Birmingham Assay Office (the Anchor) and any fine silver jewellery weighing over 7.78g will be hallmarked.
